I made the switch! I broke up with my OB's and hired a midwife. I feel slightly crazy doing this do far along (I'm 33 weeks) but I'm confident (at least I keep telling myself that) that we have made the right decision.
We had a consultation last week and our first official appointment today. I was so pleased at how wonderful it went! We will be delivering at home (God willing) but my appointments are at the midwife's office until I get to 36 weeks - then she'll come to my house. Her office feels nothing like a doctor's office. She has a lending library full of books to borrow, snacks, water, toys for little ones, etc. etc. We didn't wait at all and she schedules 45 minutes for each appointment - and actually uses it! We talked about how I was feeling, how the baby is doing, any fears, concerns, questions I have. She gave me great tips and suggestions. It was great! Then we listened to Hannah's heart beat and she measured me (33 weeks, so perfect). We discussed my next appointment and she told me to call (on her cell) if I had any concerns. It was so wonderful and relaxing!
Right now the only hang ups are my OB's office (they still haven't sent my records) and our insurance (who is giving them the run around). Other than that, all is great!
I've also contacted a doula who comes to me highly recommended. I loved our doula last time but she had a baby a few months ago and isn't taking clients yet. :( Just talking to this doula on the phone I think I'm going to like her. She seems a little hippie dippie, but that tends to come with the territory.
So now all I have to do is keep growing this baby and get our house ready for a birth and a new little one.
I cannot believe how fast this is going! I know the next 4-9 weeks are going to fly by. I'm ready...but I'm not ready. I'm feeling more attached to Mary-Grace than ever right now. I'm trying to savor every moment I have with her before her little world gets flipped upside down and my time gets divided in two.
Please feel free to send me your prayer requests. I would love, love, love to pray for you during labor. :)
- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone so please excuse they typos. My phone thinks it's smarter than me.
Long overdue final update (such a good one)!

Hi, I found you from Lauren at Magnify the Lord's blog and I wanted to share with you that I will be praying for you in the next few weeks and wanted to request that you add us to your prayers. I ask specifically that you pray for healing in my relationship with my mother so that I may gain insight into my relationship with my four sons and daughter :) Thank you. May God wrap you in grace and comfort during your last few weeks of pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteMary Elizabeth
You go, GIRL! Awesome! I'm glad you decided to do what felt right and natural to you and I hope you will be pleased. My sister did a homebirth with her second and loved it! It's going to be great and MG will benefit too.
ReplyDeleteMy prayer request is that my health will improve and my doctors will be thorough. I pray that our first year of homeschooling will be not bad:) I pray for help with my vactions as wife and Mom and for my chilren. Love you!
I agree with Brenda - you go GIRL! I am so happy you found someone that will listen to you and gives you peace about Hannah's delivery! Are you going to do a water birth at home? Also, I would love for you to pray for my extended family - that peace may prevail in a specific situation, for my DH, Elizabeth and me that we will strive to do the Lord's will in all things and be an example of the Domestic Church here on earth. Thank you!!!!
ReplyDeleteYay, I'm so glad you made the switch and feel good about it, hopefully the MD office and insurance will get their act together soon.
ReplyDeletePlease pray for me as I go back to work and try and care well for my family and my students. Thanks! Will be praying for you and your birth.
Could you please NOT center your text. A raggedy left margin makes it hard to read.
ReplyDeleteSorry about that anon! I didn't even realize that was happening. Must be a setting I didn't know was on. I'll change it when I have a second to access from my computer rather than my phone.
ReplyDeletehaha, yeah the centering is a little hard to read...
ReplyDeleteanyways, we are planning a home birth also! for a variety of reasons, but God willing it works out! glad to hear someone else out there thinks its normal :) still trying to figure out how to tell our parents!
